Finally getting around to updating my website. Still some work to do but check it out at Shades-ETC.

I'm still planning on making more lampshades for teacup and teapot lamps.  I have a ton of them to do!

Still Here!

Yes, I'm still here.  I've been busy with lots of projects.  One of them was being a vendor at the local Bethel Baptist Christmas Show in November.  I split the space with my friend who makes quilted table runners and other cool items.  We had a nice day together and I met a lot of people.  We both sold lots of items and felt that it was a good day.

Now on to more projects.

Piggy Bank Lamp Fun Has Begun

The story has begun with the base ready and waiting for the piggies to come sit on it.  The pattern is ready for the lampshade to be made once the piggies get here so we can choose the fabric that matches them the best.

Will the piggies arrive in good condition?  Will they be the right size for the base?  Will the color be such that we can match the lampshade fabric?  Will Cindy get the shade done next week?  Stay tuned for answers to these questions....

Here it is; finally done.  The customer found the green and coral trim she wanted. It is a fun look.  I hope she will send me a picture of it on the lamp.

This fabric was from a $300 dress that she found for $3!!  It has a coral lining which I used for the shade's lining.  I also dyed the hug snug which I used to wrap the wires with so that it matched the lining.

Do you need a lamp updated or a shade redone?  Email or leave a comment below and let's see what we can do for you!

Coral Custom Made Lampshade Order

I've been working on this lampshade for a customer.  It is going to be made with a dress lining and outer fabric.  This is the lining.  I had just enough fabric for the lining.  It has been a real challenge as the lining fabric wants to ravel.  I've used some fray check on portions, which I hope will help.  I have almost half of the outer fabric on but no picture yet.  The coral color should be very interesting in the room the customer is putting this lampshade.

Chandelier Lampshade Order

Small Chandelier Type Lampshades

Another customer order for five of these awesome small shades.  They are 4" high. The outer cover is a marbled paper.  All five will look different.  I'm so excited to see these done.

Sometimes handmade lampshade making is fun!

Another Custom-Made Lampshade Finished

Custom-Made Lampshades

Very classy and went together so well.  I was able to use the old shade as a pattern this time.  That doesn't always work as sometimes the old shades are ragged and just fall apart.  But as you can see the picture below, the shades weren't hard to replace.

Getting Ready Another Custom Made Lampshade

New Lampshade Order

Started a new order! These lampshades are tall ovals. They will be recovered with a rice paper.  So far I've taken off the old shades.  The rings are rusted and need to be cleaned and painted with rust-o-leom....that's for tonight.

I'll post more pictures as I progress on this fun project.

Rosemarie Green Victorian Lamp with handmade lampshade

Rosemarie Green Victorian Lamp
I just finished this lampshade yesterday.  My step-mom gave me the lamp base.  The lady and gentlemen on this base are dressed for dancing and courting.  They are wearing matching outfits in green and white and the lady has rose colored trim on her dress.

I used 100% off-white silk underneath the light green lace.  It is trimmed with rose gimp (this picture makes it look darker.  See the first picture for better color) and white fringe topped with a light green beaded flower fringe.

With the light on, it looks beautiful.  It is now ready for someone's special room.  Since it uses a 40-watt light bulb, it would be a good night light or task light.  It has a 6' white cord and the push through on/off switch is under the shade.

It will be for sale on my website for $45.00 plus shipping or at Exquisite Things Gift Shoppe in Bemus Point, NY in Chautauqua County this summer.

Custom Made Drum Lampshade

Another happy customer in Chautauqua County.  I just finished this custom made lampshade.  It is 14-1/2" across the top, 15" across the bottom and 17" high with a 4" drop.  We used cream colored shantung fabric on a hard plastic.  It turned out nicer than the picture is showing.  Someday I'll learn how to use Photoshop better!

For $65, it's an excellent buy and saves our dump from excess waste.  Her grandson gets a "new" lamp for a small amount of money.

It's not hard to recycle lampshades.  As long as I have the frame with a good pattern, I can do it in two weeks or less.

See more examples of repaired lampshades here.

Finials for Lampshades

This small brass lamp finial makes a nice topper for a smaller lampshade.  It is 5/8" high and gold colored brass.  These are not solid brass but brass/gold color.  The inside diameter is 1/4", which means they fit a 1/4" #28 fine thread pipe.

Why not add a small change to your existing lamp with one of these finials available at my eCrater store.

Lavender and Green Teacup Nightlight

I'm back at making my favorite creations.  I took a break so that I could teach piano and now that lessons are over until September, I have more time to create. This is the newest creation (July 2012) in my line of teacup night lights. It has a mauve-lavender teacup trimmed with gold in which I've added an electric candle light and silk flowers. The handmade lampshade is round. The hardbacked shade is made with fabric of lavender and pink flowers on a light green background and trimmed with the same fabric. The electric candle lamp has on/off switch on the six foot cord. It uses a 7-watt candelabra bulb. It measures 10-1/4" tall.

Artists At Work
What a nice surprise I had today when an few ladies from the Chautauqua Artists Guild came and set up tables in my parking lot.  I love it.  They are drawing attention to this side of the road.  All three are painting in either watercolors or acyrlics.  Laurie McGrath, Lisa Offhauss, and Denisa Snyder-Norberg are three lovely ladies making beautiful art today at Exquisite Things Gift Shoppe in Bemus Point, NY.

Besides being artists, they are all jewelry makers.  Come see them if you are in Bemus Point today.

Hand Painted China at Exquisite Things Gift Shoppe in Bemus Point

Hand Painted China

Painting Porcelain Since 1975

Today I'm featuring hand painted china by a local Chautauqua County artist, Elaine Caflisch. Elaine's first lessons were to learn how to paint china thimbles for her collection of thimbles. She especially likes to do animal portraits, flowers, and birds.  She has several items painted with flowers and birds at Exquisite Things Gift Shoppe in Bemus Point, NY.

Elaine has painted for several years for the National Osteoporosis Foundation doing their Mother's Day cards and in 2011 doing their Christmas card thank you's.

She is currently the president of the chautauqua County Society of Artists.  She is married to Philip and has two children (one married) and two horse, shih Tzu dogs and several small caged birds.  She teaches porcelain painting.

You can see her art at Exquisite Things Gift Shoppe in Bemus Point on Saturdays during the month of May and Friday and Saturday during June.  The shoppe is open from 10a until 5p.

Cambridge Newel Post Floor Lamp with Handmade Lampshade

Handmade Lampshade on Antique Newel Post
Wooden Floor Lamp

Antique Art Deco Newel Post Floor Lamp with Handmade Lampshade

I just finished trimming this handmade lampshade.  It looks awesome on the antique newel post lamp base.  We found the base in Cambridge, NY at an antique store and had to have it for one of my special creations.

I think the style is called art deco...not my usual Victorian type shades but close.

This shade is made from silk fabrics in green and gold.  The sage green trim accents the double layer of cream colored fringe and gold, brown, and blue scalloped, beaded fringe.  It took ten hours to create, but was worth the time and effort.

It is for sale at Exquisite Things Gift Shoppe in Bemus Point, NY.
